JA Finance Park Volunteer

What is JA Finance Park?

JA Finance Park® is Junior Achievement’s capstone program for 7th-12th grade students centered around career readiness and financial literacy. After completing a series olessons in the classroom, students participate in a real-life simulation where they put their knowledge into action. During this capstone experience at JA Finance Park, students take on a randomly-assigned life scenario-- complete with career, income, family, savings, and debt-- and visit businesses to gather information for their personal financial decision-making.

What Do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers participate in a training session prior to the students’ arrival, and will get an understanding for flow of the day, discussion questions and objectives. Once students are on-site, volunteers will be assigned a small group of students to guide through the stages of the simulation and facilitate discussion around careers, budgeting, and real-life financial decision making. Depending on student group size, up to 18 volunteers are needed for a simulation.

What is the Role of the Teacher?

During the simulation, teachers will be present to observe their students and listen to discussions that are taking place. They also help maintain discipline, oversee the students’ lunch, and will use reports generated by the simulation to conduct their debrief lessons back at school.

What is the Role of JA Staff?

JA staff lead volunteer training and oversee the simulation.

What is my time commitment?

Typically 4-6 hours on a single day for the volunteer training session & simulation. Volunteers usually arrive to the JA facility between 7:30-9:00 am and wrap up between 12:30-2:00 pm.
